Adventures in Cali, Colombia - The City

A special thanks to my buddy Josh for coming up with this couch surfing title: Spanning the Crack

Sugar cane

When you get off the plane in Cali, Colombia, the line isn't long at all and you move quickly through customs. Stop at an ATM, a cajero, pick up several hundred thousand pesos (conversion roughly 3,000 pesos/ $1US), and grab an uber south to the fan-shaped city.

So many motos!

When you roll down the windows, you’ll smell miles of sugar cane until notes of diesel and gasoline overpower everything else as you draw closer to the urban center. Motorcycles abound. To the left, to the right, between busses and cars, they rev their engines as the light turns from red to yellow, then green. Horses hooves scuttle down the streets, and everywhere the heartbeat of cumbia music throbs above the din of the moving city.

Cholado <3
Tropical climates make for hot afternoons, a perfect time to take a long nap after a savory lunch heavy on rice and beans or some type of brothy soup. Cold showers are all you will get in most places here, so during the hot and humid afternoon is a prime time to freshen up. Follow that with an afternoon black Colombian coffee or a delicious cholado and you’re set to start out on the town when the locals do–in the cooler, breezier evening. DiamondWilson.com
